When I became pregnant, I was excited. When my doctor told me I needed a stress free pregnancy, I was, of course, less then happy about the news. It meant I needed to quit my job and basically be as calm as possible. A friend recommended this book and I'm so glad she did! Everything about the book was wonderful and easy to follow along with. There is even a chapter for bed rest. That section alone was worth the price of the book, as it helped save my sanity when I was put on bed rest in my last trimester. This book made my difficult pregnancy that much easier.

Yoga for Pregnancy, Birth and Vibrant Life by Matra Raj is a wonderful addition to the Yoga literature, and will help make Yoga seem more real and accessible to the general population. The book is very well balanced and includes just the right amount of information about the author's background, anatomy, Yoga, different needs, mudras etc. The photos are beautiful and really enhance the written word. The reader will not be overwhelmed by too much information, and will not feel like they are a failure if they can't practice "on the mat" for hours/day. I think this book is a masterpiece and it is appropriate for people with no background in Yoga as well as for people with a Yoga background.
This book helped me a lot during my pregnancy. I was having quite a bit of back tension and pain, using this book as a guide helped to relieve much of it. Also, the breathing techniques in this book helped me to be more relaxed in general. I recommend this book to all my pregnant friends )
Matra Raj has made a important contribution for perinatal health and well-being. I really appreciated how "real world" the book is...that is she wrote to the everyday experience of mothers vs some "be perfect, no problems" commercial-like life! The chapters on bedrest and common ailments were particularly helpful and something I've never seen offered before in prenatal yoga books. The postures and breathing techniques were clearly illustrated and bravo for demanding teacher supervision for pranayama...so many just toss it out like some minor technique!
I also found the varied practice samples helpful too....giving the reader a nice practical selection of real world experiences of "I can't do an hour, but what can I do in 20 min today". I really enjoyed the way Raj integrated the baby into the post-partum practices too rather than putting them off-stage so to speak.
